NYCLA - New York County Lawyers' Association: "Public Forum: Caught on Camera: Security Concerns vs. Privacy Rights

Wednesday, April 25, 2007
Location: NYCLA Home of Law
Time: 6:00pm

APRIL 13, 2007 - NEW YORK, NY - The New York County Lawyers' Association (NYCLA) will address the issue of the proliferation of video surveillance cameras in New York City at a free public forum, "Caught on Camera: Security Concerns vs. Privacy Rights," on Wednesday, April 25 at the NYCLA Home of Law at 14 Vesey Street at 6:00 PM. Video surveillance cameras are proliferating in New York City, especially in Lower Manhattan. Forum presenters will discuss the competing concerns of security and privacy, including whether and how video surveillance should be regulated, how data is collected and stored, and who does or should have access to it.

Among the forum speakers is Hon. Alan Gerson, City Council Member representing lower Manhattan, a neighborhood in which large numbers of video surveillance cameras have already been installed. In addition, the former executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union, Norman Siegel, who currently chairs NYCLA's Municipal Affairs Committee, and Heather Mac Donald, Senior Fellow, Manhattan Institute, and Contributing Editor, City Journal, are also panelists.

Forum co-sponsors are NYCLA's Civil Rights, Cyberspace Law and Municipal Affairs Committees and Criminal Justice Section.

Moderator: Sandra Endo, Political Reporter, New York 1 News

RSVP: dlamb@nycla.org and write 'April 25 forum' on Subject line.
