Woohoo! I'm the 999,999th Visitor to Digg!

Woohoo! I'm the 999,999th Visitor to Digg! - Via Threat Level:

I thought Digg got more traffic than that, but blinking rectangle ads designed to look like Windows alert boxes never lie. I'd like to thank everyone who helped get me here.

It turns out nearly being the one millionth visitor to the 25th most popular site on the web wins me a free laptop from an outfit called YouGiftPro.com -- though certain terms and conditions apply, naturally, and not everyone who's dealt with this generous company (based in the British West Indies) has enjoyed the experience.

Seriously, though. It's always jarring to see a flagrantly deceptive ad on a legitimate site. But I like to think Digg sold this spot knowing it would provide users with a good laugh.

I hit refresh, to see if it would bring me to a million, and instead dropped way down.

(Disclosure: Wired Digital owns both Wired News and Reddit, a Digg competitor.)
